Getting Started
It is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest of motorsport to become involved in. Autograss is a non-contact motorsport that takes place on an oval (approximately 400 metre) track using a natural soil surface. Due to the close nature of the racing, thrills and spills are never far away.
Racing licences are available for men, ladies and juniors. Also available are mechanics and social licences for those who do not wish to race but would like to be part of this very affordable motorsport.
Up to 8 cars start on a straight line grid and race over short 4-8 lap races. This results in the major meetings, most of which are staged over 2 days, Offering upwards of 200 races. All classes normally race through qualifying heats and finals. If time permits, open races are held where different classes race against each other.
The family nature of the sport is important - Sometimes all members of a family can share the same racing car, Although juniors (12-16 years) are restricted to two less powerful classes for obvious reasons!
Class 1 involves one car ( Mini, Cinquecento, Citreon AX or the new for 2009 Peugeot 106 ) which can be raced by Mum, Dad and Child (Boy or Girl) all with the same car. Children must be over 12yrs to race.
This thrilling motorsport can be started with less than £500!
Before starting or at the planning/idea stage give a club member a call. This will be invaluable has it will save you time and money and ultimately make it a much more pleasurable starting experience. The club will also guide you through getting your license.
Autograss event do not require competitors to enter prior to the day (with the exception of the National Championships).
